What Happened
On the morning of July 5, 2026, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Sucre state of northeastern Venezuela, with the epicenter located approximately 12 kilometers offshore in the Caribbean Sea. The tremor was felt across six states and caused widespread structural damage in coastal cities including Cumana, Carupano, and Guiria.
Early reports from local partners on the ground indicate that thousands of families have been displaced, with significant damage to residential buildings, schools, and healthcare facilities. Access to clean water has been disrupted in multiple municipalities, and the region's already-strained medical infrastructure is under severe pressure.
Globalwide Association's 48-Hour Response
Within 48 hours of the earthquake, Globalwide Association activated its emergency response protocol. Our team coordinated with in-country partner organizations to assess immediate needs, establish communication channels with affected member families, and begin routing emergency funds to vetted local relief organizations.
Our initial response has focused on three priorities:
Emergency Medical Assistance
We are funding mobile medical units and prescription supply chains to reach communities where clinics have been damaged or destroyed. Members in affected areas can contact us directly for expedited medical assistance processing.
Clean Water and Food Distribution
In partnership with local NGOs, we are funding water purification equipment and food distribution to displaced families in temporary shelters across Sucre and Anzoategui states.
Shelter and Structural Assessment
We are working with engineering volunteers to assess which buildings are safe for re-entry and coordinating temporary shelter for families whose homes are uninhabitable.
